If found, these plugs must be replaced with serviceable units not from the affected lots within the same timeframe. No installation of affected fusible plugs is permitted after the effective date. Requests for service information should be sent to the corrected email address.
Summary
Correction to FAA Airworthiness Directive 2018-23-12 concerning Zodiac Aero Evacuation Systems fusible plugs installed on emergency evacuation equipment for various transport category airplanes including models from Airbus, Boeing, BAE Systems, and Fokker. The correction updates the previously published email address for requesting service information related to the inspection and replacement of affected fusible plugs. The directive addresses fusible plugs that may activate below their rated temperature, potentially compromising evacuation system functionality.
What changed
The correction specifically amends the email address for service information requests from an incorrect address to ZAESTechPubs@zodiacaerospace.com. No other changes to the original airworthiness directive's requirements or compliance timelines were made. The entire rule is republished to incorporate this correction.
Why it matters
Accurate contact information is essential for operators and maintenance personnel to obtain the necessary service bulletins and guidance for inspecting and replacing affected fusible plugs. Ensuring the correct fusible plugs are installed prevents premature activation that could render emergency evacuation systems unusable, directly impacting aircraft safety and regulatory compliance.
