EASA SIB CASA-2026-01
Spoiler Spigot Shim Missing at Multifunction Spoiler Actuator Installation
Summary
Transport Canada Civil Aviation Safety Alert CASA 2026-01 addresses a missing spoiler spigot shim issue during the multifunction spoiler (MFS) actuator installation on Bombardier Inc. model BD-700-2A12 (Global 7500) aeroplanes, serial numbers 70006 through 70133 and 70135 through 70158. The alert highlights the use of contour sealant pads instead of the required metallic shims, which can lead to increased stress and potential structural failure of the spoiler spigot brackets.
What Changed
This new safety alert introduces awareness of the missing metallic spoiler spigot shim at the MFS actuator installation and mandates corrective action. It requires removal of spoiler spigot brackets with contour sealant pads and replacement with brackets fitted with metallic shims, as detailed in Bombardier Service Bulletin 700-57-7532 dated 26 August 2025.
Why It Matters
The missing metallic shim can cause a larger gap and high pre-load stress on the spoiler spigot bracket, increasing the risk of stress corrosion cracking. Over time, this may lead to failure of both spoiler spigot brackets and disconnection of the MFS actuator, posing a significant safety risk. Operators, maintainers, and compliance teams must address this to ensure continued airworthiness and prevent potential in-flight failures.
What To Do
Owners, operators, and maintainers of affected Bombardier BD-700-2A12 (Global 7500) aircraft should remove and replace the spoiler spigot brackets as per the instructions in Service Bulletin 700-57-7532 Basic Issue dated 26 August 2025 or later revisions. Within Canada, a Service Difficulty Report must be submitted to Transport Canada upon discovery of the issue. Outside Canada, reporting should follow local regulatory requirements.
