What to do
Operators of Airbus A380 aeroplanes must perform detailed inspections of the wing landing gear attachment rib 9 fittings within specified compliance times and at regular intervals thereafter. If cracked sealant or any damage is found, appropriate repairs or replacements must be carried out according to Airbus instructions within 12 months for affected area 1 or within 48 months after first finding for affected area 2. Inspection results, including no findings, must be reported to Airbus within 30 days of inspection or the AD effective date.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0074 is an airworthiness directive issued by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency affecting Airbus A380-841, A380-842, and A380-861 aeroplanes. It addresses inspections and repairs related to the wing landing gear attachment rib 9 fittings, specifically focusing on detecting cracks, corrosion, and sealant degradation in these critical structural components. The directive applies to all manufacturer serial numbers of the Airbus A380 and mandates detailed inspections and corrective actions to maintain structural integrity.
What changed
EASA AD 2025-0074 supersedes the previous AD 2024-0141 and retains its inspection requirements while introducing new repair instructions and compliance times for affected gear rib 9 fittings. It updates inspection thresholds and intervals based on findings and requires reporting of inspection results. This AD also clarifies repair and replacement procedures for cracked sealant, corrosion, bushing migration, and cracks in the affected areas.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals as it ensures the structural integrity of the Airbus A380 wing landing gear attachments, preventing potential failures due to corrosion and cracking. Operators and maintenance organizations must comply to avoid unsafe conditions that could compromise flight safety. The AD also provides clear guidance on inspection intervals and repair methods, facilitating regulatory compliance and effective maintenance planning.
