EASA AD 2026-0182R1: Stabilizers – Elevators – Inspections / Replacement

What to do

Operators must perform a thermographic inspection of affected elevator parts within 3 months of 5 October 2026, or may extend up to 6 years if prior inspections per specified Airbus service bulletins have been done. Any discrepancies found must be corrected per Airbus instructions before further flight. All affected elevator parts must be replaced with serviceable parts within 12 months of 5 October 2026, and installation of affected parts on any aircraft is prohibited from the effective date.

Summary

EASA Airworthiness Directive 2026-0182R1 is an updated regulatory requirement addressing inspections and replacement of elevators on Airbus A319 and A321 NEO models. It applies to specific elevator part numbers that lack Airbus modification 35515, which could lead to structural integrity issues due to water ingress and disbonding. The directive mandates thermographic inspections and replacement of affected elevator parts to ensure continued airworthiness.

What changed

This revision corrects the definition of affected NEO aeroplanes to exclude non-affected aircraft, removes duplicate part numbers from the affected parts list, and fixes a typographical error in the service bulletin reference. It updates the original AD 2026-0182 issued on 21 September 2026 with these clarifications and corrections.

Why it matters

The directive is critical for operators and maintenance organizations to prevent potential elevator structural failures that could compromise aircraft control. Compliance ensures the safety and airworthiness of affected Airbus A319 and A321 NEO aircraft by addressing previously unrecognized installation eligibility errors. It also clarifies inspection and replacement requirements, helping maintenance teams avoid inadvertent use of non-compliant parts.
