What to do
Operators of Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 aircraft with affected MLG Aft Pintle Pins must replace these parts within 12 months after first installation, or within one month after 13 August 2025, or within 12 months after the aircraft reference date, whichever is later. From 13 August 2025, installation of affected parts is prohibited. Maintenance personnel should follow Airbus Alert Operators Transmission A32N036-25 instructions for replacement procedures.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0167R1 is an updated safety directive addressing the replacement of the Main Landing Gear (MLG) Aft Pintle Pin on Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 aircraft. The directive applies to specific part numbers D3215600500600 and D3215303000800 identified as affected due to manufacturing defects. It mandates replacement of these parts to prevent potential corrosion and cracking that could lead to landing gear collapse.
What changed
This revision of EASA AD 2025-0167 extends the compliance time for replacing affected MLG Aft Pintle Pins based on the aircraft's reference date. It also clarifies installation prohibitions for affected parts and incorporates feedback received after the original AD issued on 13 August 2025. The updated directive maintains the replacement requirement but allows more flexibility in scheduling the action.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals to ensure continued airworthiness and safety of Airbus A318 to A321 aircraft by preventing landing gear failures. Operators and maintenance organizations must track affected parts and comply with replacement deadlines to avoid unsafe conditions. Compliance teams need to update maintenance programs and parts inventories to reflect the prohibition on installing affected pins.
