EASA AD 2025-0083
Equipment/Furnishings — Cargo Bulkhead Frame 24A Vertical Members — Inspection
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0083 is an official regulatory document addressing inspection requirements for the cargo bulkhead frame 24A vertical members on Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 aeroplanes. It mandates repetitive detailed inspections of the affected cargo bulkhead vertical member upper parts and fittings located behind the 80VU rack to ensure continued airworthiness. The directive applies to all manufacturer serial numbers of the specified Airbus models.
What Changed
This directive supersedes EASA AD 2024-0231 by extending the applicability to include the newly certified Airbus A321-271NY model and updating the terminology to align with Airbus's naming conventions for the upper fittings. It retains the inspection requirements from the previous AD without adding new actions for aircraft already affected. The inspection thresholds and intervals remain consistent with the prior directive.
Why It Matters
This AD is critical for aviation professionals because it addresses a structural elongation issue that could cause the cargo bulkhead parts to impact the 80VU rack, potentially leading to loss of multiple computers and system failures. Such failures during critical flight phases could reduce aircraft control, posing safety risks. Operators and maintenance teams must comply to prevent unsafe conditions and ensure regulatory adherence.
What To Do
Operators must perform detailed inspections of the affected cargo bulkhead vertical members before exceeding specified flight hours, flight cycles, or months since manufacture, and repeat inspections every 30,000 flight hours, 15,000 flight cycles, or 72 months, whichever occurs first. If discrepancies are found, corrective actions must be completed before the next flight. Inspection results with detected discrepancies must be reported to Airbus within 90 days of inspection or after the AD's effective date. The effective date for compliance is 28 April 2025.
