What to do
Affected operators must replace engine components before exceeding their updated life limits and perform all maintenance tasks within specified thresholds and intervals as per TLM Revision 59 starting from 14 April 2025. They must revise their approved Aircraft Maintenance Programme within 12 months of the effective date to incorporate these new requirements. In case of discrepancies found during maintenance, corrective actions must be taken within the specified compliance times or before the next flight if no time is specified.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0072 is an amendment concerning the Rolls-Royce RB211 Trent 800 series engines installed on Boeing 777 aircraft. It mandates compliance with the updated Time Limits Manual (TLM) Revision 59 dated 07 February 2025, which defines mandatory maintenance tasks and life limits for critical engine parts. This directive ensures continued airworthiness by enforcing updated maintenance requirements for these engines.
What changed
This AD supersedes several previous directives including UK CAA AD G-2003-0003 and multiple earlier EASA ADs, consolidating their requirements into the latest TLM Revision 59. It introduces new and/or more restrictive maintenance tasks and life limits for engine components, requiring operators to update their Aircraft Maintenance Programmes accordingly. The directive also clarifies corrective actions and compliance timelines based on the latest TLM.
Why it matters
Compliance with EASA AD 2025-0072 is critical for maintaining the safety and airworthiness of Boeing 777 aircraft powered by RB211 Trent 800 engines. Operators and maintenance organizations must adhere to the updated life limits and inspection intervals to prevent unsafe conditions caused by potential failure of critical engine parts. This directive streamlines previous requirements into a single, updated maintenance framework, facilitating regulatory compliance and operational safety.
