What to do
Operators of Airbus A350-941 aeroplanes with affected main landing gear bogie beam axles must replace these parts within 24,000 flight hours or 5,700 flight cycles since first installation, whichever occurs first. From the effective date, installation of affected parts is prohibited. Compliance can also be achieved by replacing the entire main landing gear or bogie with serviceable parts following Airbus instructions.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2024-0156 is an airworthiness directive addressing the replacement of the main landing gear bogie beam axle on Airbus A350-941 aeroplanes. It specifically targets affected parts with Part Number 55-3575047-00 and certain serial numbers due to identified anodic burns that reduce fatigue life. The directive mandates replacement of these parts to prevent potential structural failure of the main landing gear.
What changed
This new airworthiness directive introduces a mandatory replacement of affected main landing gear bogie beam axles on Airbus A350-941 aircraft. It prohibits the installation of affected parts from the effective date and allows alternative compliance by replacing the entire main landing gear or bogie with serviceable parts. The directive also references Airbus Service Bulletin A350-32-P053 for the replacement procedure.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals because it addresses a safety risk that could lead to landing gear collapse, causing damage to the aircraft and potential injury to occupants. Operators and maintenance organizations must ensure compliance to maintain airworthiness and avoid operational disruptions. Compliance teams need to track affected serial numbers and ensure no affected parts are installed post-effective date.
