EASA AD 2023-0003R1
Navigation — EASy Avionics Architecture / Modification; Aircraft Flight Manual — Amendment; Master Minimum Equipment List — Implementation; Operational Suitability Manual — Flight Crew — Implementation
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2023-0003R1 is an updated regulatory document addressing the Falcon 7X aeroplanes equipped with the EASy avionics architecture. It mandates modifications to the aircraft flight manual, implementation of the Master Minimum Equipment List, and updates to the Operational Suitability Manual for flight crews to enhance avionics reliability and safety. The directive applies to all Falcon 7X aircraft except those with certain later avionics modifications embodied in production.
What Changed
This revision excludes Falcon 7X aeroplanes delivered with the latest EASy IV avionics standard modifications (M2055 or M2059) from applicability and adds new service bulletins as acceptable compliance methods. It retains previous requirements for amending flight manuals and implementing minimum equipment lists while updating compliance timelines and acceptable modification procedures for different aircraft groups.
Why It Matters
This directive addresses a critical avionics architecture weakness that could cause misleading display data, increasing pilot workload and reducing aircraft control safety margins. Compliance ensures operators maintain airworthiness and regulatory conformity, reducing risk of in-flight incidents related to avionics failures. Maintenance and compliance teams must update manuals and perform mandated modifications to avoid operational restrictions.
What To Do
Operators must amend the applicable Aircraft Flight Manual and implement the Master Minimum Equipment List and Operational Suitability Manual changes within two months of 6 September 2021. Group 2 and Group 3 aircraft must complete required avionics modifications within 12 months of their respective effective dates (26 July 2022 for Group 2 and 20 January 2023 for Group 3). Additionally, the operator's MEL must be updated within 90 days after 20 January 2023 to remove specific dispatch relief items.
