What to do

Operators must modify and re-identify each affected stretcher within 30 days of the directive's effective date following the instructions in Bucher Leichtbau AG Service Bulletin 1120050-25-001. No affected stretcher may be installed on any aircraft unless it has been modified and re-identified accordingly. Compliance with these actions is mandatory to continue operation.

Summary

EASA Airworthiness Directive 2019-0125 is an official regulatory document addressing the modification of the 9G NGS XL StepX Stretcher 1120050-Series installed on certain Embraer ERJ 170 and ERJ 190 series aircraft. The directive applies to all serial numbers of these aircraft modified with the affected stretcher under EASA Supplemental Type Certificate 10030758. It mandates specific modifications to the stretcher to ensure continued airworthiness and safety.

What changed

This new Airworthiness Directive requires modification and re-identification of the affected 9G NGS XL StepX Stretchers to correct a design deficiency that could lead to excessive loads on the aircraft floor during emergency landings. It introduces mandatory compliance with Bucher Leichtbau AG Service Bulletin 1120050-25-001 for modification and sets conditions for installation of these stretchers on applicable aircraft.

Why it matters

This directive is critical for aviation professionals as it addresses a potential safety hazard that could cause structural failure of the aircraft floor and injury to occupants. Operators and maintenance organizations must ensure compliance to maintain aircraft airworthiness and avoid operational restrictions. It also provides clear guidance on installation requirements to prevent unsafe conditions.
