What to do
Affected operators should discontinue compliance with EASA AD 2015-0081 and instead comply with the maintenance tasks and limitations specified in EASA AD 2022-0194 for A300-600 (including A300-600ST) and AD 2022-0195 for A310 aircraft. There are no new actions or compliance deadlines introduced by this cancellation notice itself.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive Cancellation Notice 2015-0081-CN cancels the previous EASA AD 2015-0081 concerning the identification and replacement of Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer Actuators (THSA) on Airbus A300-600, A300-600ST, and A310 aircraft. The affected THSA part number is 47142 series, which was subject to partial loss of no-back brake efficiency. This cancellation reflects updated maintenance requirements incorporated in newer ADs for these aircraft models.
What changed
This cancellation notice officially withdraws EASA AD 2015-0081, which mandated replacement of certain THSAs due to braking efficiency issues. The requirements of the cancelled AD have been superseded and incorporated into EASA AD 2022-0194 and AD 2022-0195, which include updated and more restrictive maintenance tasks and limitations for the affected Airbus aircraft.
Why it matters
For aviation professionals, this cancellation clarifies that the original AD 2015-0081 is no longer necessary as its safety objectives are now covered by more recent directives. Operators and maintenance organizations must follow the updated maintenance requirements to ensure continued airworthiness and prevent potential uncommanded horizontal stabilizer movements that could lead to loss of control.
