Summary
Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin SAIB NE-09-48R1 is a revised FAA information bulletin concerning propellers and component parts repaired, inspected, or overhauled by Western Aircraft Propeller Service, Inc. (WAP). It addresses the airworthiness status of McCauley 200/300/400 series threadless compact propellers and related non-destructive inspection and testing services. This bulletin does not apply to any specific aircraft or engine models beyond those propeller series mentioned.
What changed
This revision updates the original SAIB NE-09-48 by confirming that WAP has recertified its personnel in Non-Destructive Testing and calibrated its instruments. The FAA has granted WAP a limited propeller rating with capability list authority, allowing WAP to add articles to its capability list per FAA-accepted procedures. These changes reflect WAP's restored qualifications and expanded operational authority.
Why it matters
This bulletin informs aviation professionals that WAP is now fully qualified to perform repairs, inspections, and overhauls on certain McCauley propellers, ensuring continued airworthiness and safety. Operators and maintenance organizations can rely on WAP's services with confidence, reducing uncertainty about propeller maintenance compliance. It also clarifies that no mandatory airworthiness directive action is currently required, aiding compliance planning.
