EASA SIB CE-17-03: Air Tractor AT-602, AT-802 and AT-802A Aeroplanes - Rudder Pedal Attach Assembly

What to do

Affected operators and maintenance personnel should inspect the rudder pedal attach assembly on Air Tractor Models AT-602, AT-802, and AT-802A airplanes following the procedures outlined in Service Letters #345 and #329. No mandatory compliance deadline is specified, but timely inspections are advised to detect and address weld cracks or attachment issues. For further guidance, contact the FAA aerospace engineers or Air Tractor, Inc.

Summary

The Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin SAIB CE-17-03 is an FAA informational bulletin addressing a flight control concern for Air Tractor Models AT-602, AT-802, and AT-802A airplanes. It highlights inspection procedures and maintenance recommendations for the rudder pedal attachment assembly to ensure continued airworthiness. This bulletin does not mandate regulatory action but provides guidance to prevent potential rudder pedal detachment.

What changed

SAIB CE-17-03 introduces inspection recommendations based on Air Tractor Service Letters #345 and #329, which address weld cracks and attachment issues in the rudder pedal assembly of the specified Air Tractor models. It alerts operators to inspect welds securing bushings and rudder pedal attach plates to prevent failure. This bulletin does not issue a mandatory airworthiness directive but serves as an advisory notice.

Why it matters

This bulletin is important for aviation professionals because cracks or failures in the rudder pedal attachment welds can lead to loss of rudder control, posing a safety risk. Operators, maintenance technicians, and inspectors need to be aware of this potential issue to maintain flight control integrity. Proactive inspections help avoid in-flight control failures and ensure compliance with recommended safety practices.
