EASA SIB CASA-2011-07: Diamond Canada DA20 aeroplanes — NLG Fork Assembly Inspection / Replacement

What to do

Owners and maintainers of Diamond DA20-A1 and DA20-C1 aeroplanes should familiarize themselves with the revised inspection requirements in the updated maintenance manual and conduct more frequent, detailed inspections of the NLG fork assembly. They are also strongly recommended to replace the original fork assembly with the improved part number 20-3220-08-00_1. For further information, stakeholders should consult Diamond Service Information Letters SIL20A1-008 and SIL20C1-005 or contact Diamond Aircraft Industries directly.

Summary

Transport Canada Civil Aviation Safety Alert CASA 2011-07 is a safety alert addressing a potential unsafe condition involving cracking in the nose landing gear (NLG) fork assembly, part number 20-3220-08-00, on Diamond Canada DA20-A1 and DA20-C1 aeroplanes. The alert informs owners and maintainers about the discovery of cracks above the axle hole during routine inspections and provides guidance on inspection and replacement procedures.

What changed

The alert introduces revised maintenance manual Chapter 05-20-00 for the DA20-A1 and DA20-C1 models, requiring more frequent and detailed inspections of the NLG fork assembly. Additionally, Diamond Aircraft Industries offers an improved, more robust fork assembly part number 20-3220-08-00_1 as a replacement for the original part, which will be installed on new production aircraft and available for future orders.

Why it matters

This alert is critical for aviation professionals because undetected cracks in the NLG fork assembly can compromise aircraft safety during ground operations. Operators, maintenance organizations, and compliance teams must ensure adherence to the updated inspection schedules and consider replacing the original fork assembly to prevent potential failures and maintain airworthiness.
