EASA SIB BEA-2021-01R01: Embraer S.A. EMB-500 aeroplanes - Hydraulic Powerpack Failures

What to do

Operators and owners of affected EMB-500 aircraft should follow the recommendation to replace tubes, hoses, and rework the hydraulic suction line support as described in Embraer Service Bulletin SB500-29-0007 to improve powerpack reliability. They should monitor for any further updates to this bulletin that may include additional recommendations. No mandatory compliance deadline is specified, but proactive action is advised.

Summary

The Embraer S.A. EMB-500 aeroplanes - Hydraulic Powerpack Failures Special Airworthiness Bulletin (BEA Nº 2021-01R01) alerts operators of Embraer EMB-500 aircraft equipped with PW617F-E or PW617F1-E engines and specific avionics systems about hydraulic powerpack failures. It covers models Phenom 100E and Phenom 100EV, including those modified by Embraer Service Bulletin SB500-00-0009. The bulletin provides information on the hydraulic system changes and associated failure reports without imposing mandatory requirements.

What changed

This revision of the Special Airworthiness Bulletin updates the affected product list to include EMB-500 aircraft that have incorporated the Embraer Service Bulletin SB500-00-0009 modification. It highlights reported failures related to the modified hydraulic powerpack with a segregated reservoir and recommends improvements to the hydraulic suction line to enhance reliability. The bulletin supersedes the previous BEA 2021-01 issued on January 20th, 2021.

Why it matters

This bulletin is important for aviation professionals because it addresses recurrent hydraulic powerpack failures that could affect aircraft system availability and safety. Operators and maintenance teams need to be aware of the potential reliability issues and the recommended modifications to prevent hydraulic system failures. Understanding these issues helps ensure continued safe operation and compliance with airworthiness standards.
