What to do
Owners and operators of affected Transport Category airplanes should review and incorporate the applicable Safran service bulletins listed in the bulletin at the earliest opportunity to replace the affected rupture disc assemblies. Additionally, any discrepant rupture disc assemblies should be reported to the FAA using the provided contact information.
Summary
The Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin FAA SAIB: AIR-22-06R1 is an informational bulletin addressing the rupture disc assembly part number B14268-1 used in evacuation systems on certain Transport Category airplanes. It informs operators about a potential issue where the rupture disc assembly may activate below 160°F, causing the compressed gas reservoir to vent and rendering inflatable emergency equipment inoperative. The bulletin references multiple Safran service bulletins for affected aircraft models to guide replacement procedures.
What changed
This revision corrects the previously misstated part number from 14268-1 to the correct B14268-1 for the rupture disc assemblies. It reiterates that the issue does not currently warrant an airworthiness directive under 14 CFR part 39 but provides updated guidance and references for service bulletin compliance.
Why it matters
This bulletin is important for aviation professionals because premature activation of the rupture disc assembly can deplete emergency inflation systems, potentially compromising passenger safety during evacuation. Operators, maintenance organizations, and compliance teams need to be aware of this issue to ensure the reliability of evacuation equipment and maintain regulatory compliance.
