EASA SIB 2014-13: Unapproved Parts Notification — Galley Waste Carts

What to do

Owners, operators, and maintenance organizations should remove from service any galley waste carts designed by EGRET AVIATION and released on an EASA Form 1 by GAS Manufacturing Ltd after 09 February 2011. They should also inform their competent authority about the presence of such parts. No specific compliance deadline is provided, but prompt action is recommended.

Summary

EASA Safety Information Bulletin 2014-13 is an unapproved parts notification concerning galley waste carts with Part Number TH0003-A01, serial numbers TH003702-TH003801, released on EASA Form 1 by Global Aviation Services (GAS) Manufacturing Ltd. These parts are based on design data from EGRET AVIATION but were released after the expiration of GAS Manufacturing Ltd's production Organisation Approval on 09 February 2011. The bulletin applies to these specific galley waste carts and warns that they are not approved for installation on any aircraft.

What changed

This bulletin introduces a notification that any galley waste carts released to service on an EASA Form 1 by GAS Manufacturing Ltd after 09 February 2011 must be considered unapproved parts. It clarifies that EGRET AVIATION does not hold valid EASA design approval for these carts or any other galley catering equipment. No Airworthiness Directive action is currently warranted based on this safety concern.

Why it matters

This notification is important for aviation professionals because installing unapproved parts can compromise regulatory compliance and potentially affect aircraft safety. Operators, maintenance organizations, and compliance teams must be aware that parts released after the specified date by GAS Manufacturing Ltd are not eligible for installation. This helps ensure that only approved parts are used, maintaining airworthiness standards and avoiding regulatory penalties.
