EASA AD CF-2024-31R1
Flight Controls — Flap System On-Board Recorder (FSOBR) effects on Flap Control Unit
Summary
Airworthiness Directive CF-2024-31R1 is issued by Transport Canada concerning Bombardier Inc. model CL-600-2B16 aeroplanes, including Challenger 604, 605, and 650 variants. The directive addresses issues related to the Flap System On-Board Recorder (FSOBR) and its effects on the Flap Control Unit, which can cause flap failures and potential loss of control. It mandates corrective actions to disconnect the FSOBR and prohibits its future installation on these aircraft.
What Changed
CF-2024-31R1 revises the previous AD CF-2024-31 by clarifying which aircraft are required to disconnect the FSOBR system. It maintains the original requirements to disconnect the FSOBR and prohibits reinstalling or reconnecting the FSOBR unit and harness on all CL-600-2B16 aircraft. The revision ensures clearer applicability and compliance instructions.
Why It Matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals as it addresses a safety risk involving uncommanded flap movements that could lead to loss of aircraft control. Operators and maintenance organizations must ensure compliance to prevent flap system failures caused by the FSOBR. Understanding and implementing these requirements helps maintain airworthiness and regulatory compliance.
What To Do
Operators of Bombardier CL-600-2B16 aircraft that have incorporated the specified service bulletins must disconnect the FSOBR within 1000 flight hours or 14 months from the original AD effective date of 23 September 2024. Additionally, no reconnection or installation of the FSOBR unit part number 604-70201-1 or harness part number 604-57140-3 is allowed from that date onward. Compliance must follow the instructions in the applicable service bulletins.
