What to do
Operators must replace all affected fuel tank connection hoses within 100 hours air time or 2 months from the effective date of the AD, whichever occurs first. They must also inspect the main fuel tank chambers and remove any detached rubber parts before further flight after hose replacement. Installation of affected parts as replacements is prohibited from 31 October 2019 onward, and compliance with the specified Mandatory Service Bulletins is required.
Summary
Canadian Airworthiness Directive CF-2019-39R1 addresses fuel tank connection hose deterioration in Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. models DA 40, DA 40 D, DA 40 F, and DA 40 NG aeroplanes. The directive mandates inspection and replacement of affected fuel tank connection hoses and removal of any detached rubber parts found in the fuel system. It applies to all serial numbers of these aircraft models and references specific Mandatory Service Bulletins for compliance.
What changed
CF-2019-39R1 revises the applicability of the original AD CF-2019-39 by updating the affected serial number range for DA 40 NG aeroplanes and revising Table 1 with updated Mandatory Service Bulletins. It also grants credit for compliance with earlier revisions of the service bulletins while maintaining the original replacement and inspection requirements.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals to prevent fuel contamination and fuel flow restriction caused by deteriorated fuel tank connection hoses. Compliance ensures continued airworthiness and safety by reducing the risk of fuel starvation and potential loss of aircraft control. Operators and maintenance organizations must adhere to these requirements to meet regulatory standards and avoid grounding of affected aircraft.
