EASA AD 2025-0143
Engine — Low Pressure Compressor Blades — Inspection / Replacement
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0143 is an airworthiness directive addressing inspection and replacement of low pressure compressor blades on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine models installed on Boeing 787 aircraft. It applies to specific affected blades identified by part and serial numbers in Rolls-Royce Alert Non-Modification Service Bulletin TRENT 1000 72-AK965 Revision 3. The directive mandates inspections and, if necessary, replacement of these blades to ensure continued airworthiness.
What Changed
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2025-0143 supersedes the previous AD 2023-0201 and expands the population of affected low pressure compressor blades at risk of cracking. It introduces additional inspection requirements for newly identified affected parts and retains prior inspection and replacement mandates. The directive also updates compliance timelines and allows installation of serviceable parts as defined.
Why It Matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals because it addresses a safety risk related to potential cracking of low pressure compressor blades, which could lead to uncontained engine debris and in-flight engine shutdown. Operators and maintenance organizations must comply to prevent engine failures and ensure aircraft safety. Compliance ensures regulatory adherence and avoids operational disruptions due to unscheduled maintenance or grounding.
What To Do
Operators must inspect affected low pressure compressor blades on Group 1 engines by the later of the specified compliance date or within 30 days after 3 November 2023, and on Group 2 engines within 30 days after 22 July 2025 or by the applicable compliance date. If blades fail inspection, they must be replaced with serviceable parts before exceeding the compliance date or within 30 days after the effective date. Installation of affected parts is only allowed if they are serviceable as defined in the directive.
