What to do
Operators of affected Tecnam P2010 and P2010 TDI aeroplanes must modify the rudder pedals torque tube hinges by installing larger diameter retainer washers as specified in Tecnam Service Bulletin 817-CS within 25 flight hours or 30 days from 24 December 2024, whichever occurs first. If the modification has already been accomplished, no further action is required. Requests for alternative compliance methods can be submitted to EASA with proper justification.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2024-0239 is a regulatory document addressing the rudder pedals torque tube hinges on Tecnam P2010 and P2010 TDI aeroplanes, specifically those with serial numbers up to 317 inclusive, except those already modified with Tecnam MOD2010/359. The directive mandates a modification to improve the safety of the rudder pedals assembly by installing larger diameter retainer washers. This AD applies to all affected aircraft to ensure continued airworthiness and safe operation.
What changed
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2024-0239 introduces a mandatory modification requiring the installation of larger diameter retainer washers on the rudder pedals torque tube hinges of Tecnam P2010 and P2010 TDI aeroplanes. This is a new regulation aimed at preventing disconnection of the rudder pedals torque tube from its hinges, which could lead to loss of control. The modification must be performed following Tecnam Service Bulletin 817-CS Edition 1 Revision 0.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals because it addresses a potential unsafe condition that could cause the rudder pedals assembly to slip out of its housing, risking loss of aircraft control. Operators and maintenance organizations must comply promptly to maintain aircraft airworthiness and ensure flight safety. Compliance teams need to track and implement this AD to avoid regulatory violations and operational disruptions.
