What to do
Operators of affected DAHER MS 880, MS 890, and RALLYE aeroplanes must perform repetitive detailed inspections of the nose landing gear wheel axle and attachment screws within specified flight hour intervals, replace attachment screws every 2,000 flight hours, and apply the modification involving installation of serviceable parts as a terminating action. Compliance with initial inspections and replacements must meet the deadlines defined in the directive, effective from 1 May 2023.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive 2023-0080 is an airworthiness directive addressing the nose wheel axle and attachment screws on DAHER AEROSPACE MS 880, MS 890, and RALLYE aeroplanes. It applies to various models including MS 880 B series, MS 890 A and B, MS 892 series, MS 893 series, MS 894 series, and multiple RALLYE variants. The directive mandates inspections, replacements, and modifications to ensure the integrity of the nose landing gear components.
What changed
EASA AD 2023-0080 supersedes the previous AD 2015-0203 and introduces a new inspection method along with a redesigned nose landing gear wheel axle as a terminating action for repetitive detailed inspections. It also updates compliance intervals and allows installation of serviceable parts under specified conditions. The directive incorporates the latest DAHER Service Bulletin 150-32 Revision 4.
Why it matters
This directive is critical for aviation professionals because it addresses a known unsafe condition involving premature wear and potential rupture of the nose landing gear wheel axle, which could lead to detachment of the axle and wheel. Compliance ensures continued airworthiness, prevents possible damage to the aircraft, and protects occupant safety. Operators and maintenance organizations must adhere to the updated inspection and replacement schedules to avoid operational disruptions and regulatory non-compliance.
