What to do
Affected operators and maintenance providers should note that no further action is required regarding the inspection of overwing escape slide actuating cables as per this cancellation. They should continue to follow existing Aircraft Maintenance Manual and Maintenance Review Board Report tasks for slide maintenance. There is no compliance deadline since the cancellation removes previous inspection requirements.
Summary
EASA Airworthiness Directive Cancellation Notice 2022-0160-CN cancels the previous DGAC France AD 91-153-018 related to the inspection of overwing escape slides on Airbus A320-211, A320-212, and A320-231 aeroplanes. This cancellation applies to aircraft with manufacturer serial numbers 002 to 162 inclusive, 167, and 171 to 174 inclusive. The notice confirms that the previously required one-time inspection of the overwing escape slide actuating cables is no longer necessary due to improved maintenance practices.
What changed
This cancellation notice officially withdraws the requirement for a one-time inspection of the overwing escape slide actuating cables on certain Airbus A320 models. The original directive was issued due to cable disconnection issues, but since then, regular overhauls and existing maintenance tasks have proven sufficient to prevent recurrence. No new inspections or corrective actions are mandated by this cancellation.
Why it matters
For aviation professionals, this cancellation reduces the regulatory burden by eliminating a previously mandated inspection that is now considered redundant. Operators and maintenance organizations can rely on established maintenance programs to ensure the safety and functionality of overwing escape slides. Compliance teams can update their documentation and maintenance planning accordingly, avoiding unnecessary inspections.
