L´Hotellier Ball and Swivel Joints Quick Connectors — Positive Check of Control Surfaces

EASA Safety Information Bulletin SIB No. 2012-04 addresses the positive check of control surfaces for sailplanes, powered sailplanes, and other aircraft equipped with L'Hotellier ball and swivel joint quick connectors. This bulletin follows a fatal accident involving an Eiriavion PIK 20D sailplane in Belgium, highlighting the importance of ensuring proper connection of elevator controls during assembly. The bulletin references previous airworthiness directives issued by the German Civil Aviation Authority concerning these connectors but clarifies that these are not recognized by EASA as mandatory under European regulations.
